positions

A primary role of Diversité artistique Montréal is to intervene in a variety of forums to make the voice of artists from ethnocultural communities heard. The reflections and work undertaken by the Delegation for Cultural Diversity in the Arts, and now by DAM have produced documents that have defined these positions.

The Artistic Diversity of Montreal: A Richness to be Shared (March 30, 2004)

The meeting hosted by the Conseil des arts de Montréal at the Saidye Bronfman Centre, brought together close to 200 people from Montreal's arts and culture community. This event aimed to sensitize and mobilize the milieu on cultural diversity in the arts. The initiative resulted in the creation of the Delegation for Cultural Diversity in the Arts (Délégation sur la diversité culturelle dans les arts) now known as Diversité artistique Montréal.

Brief on Montreal's project for a cultural development policy (February 2005)

During the public hearings for the City of Montréal's project about a cultural development policy, the Delegation for cultural diversity in the arts submitted a brief to the Office of Public Consultation of Montréal. This brief identifies the systemic barriers facing artists and arts organizations from ethnocultural communities. It should be noted that several of the Office's recommendations echoed those of the Delegation.

Recommendations of the Delegation to the Conseil des arts de Montréal

In September 2005, the Delegation for cultural diversity in the arts made its recommendations to the Conseil des arts de Montréal. The latter agreed with these proposals and undertook a series of actions to enhance the representation of artists from ethnocultural communities.
