Since 2006 Diversité Artistique Montreal’s mission has been to promote culturally-diverse artists and arts organizations in Montreal’s artistic landscape. In the pursuit of its goals, DAM takes public positions on issues concerning these artists and organizations, and makes available a range of services that empower them to achieve their artistic projects and/or business.

Representing the Interests of Artists from Montreal's Diverse Cultures (C)
To maintain a vigilant and critical presence about current state-of-affairs in the arts, DAM takes a public stands on issues affecting artists and arts organizations from Montreal's culturally-diverse milieu. To do this, DAM publishes online notices and positions and sits on the committees and boards of various cultural bodies.
DAM’s Service Kit
1. Business Consultation (M)
We hold consultations with artists to provide advice on artistic entrepreneurship and key concepts in project management. The purpose of these meetings is to steer the business plan of artists’ projects so that they can structure their approach. Guides and reference tools are available to assist with project design, as well as the writing of CVs and grant applications.
2. Training in Career Management for Artists (M)
We offer training in career management for artists from Montreal’s culturally-diverse milieu. The training lasts 55 hours, and provides 20 professional artists with management skills while helping them to develop practical tools to better manage their careers. This project has been made possible through the support of the Inter-Arts Office of the Canada Council for the Arts.
3. Introductory Tools to Facilitate Access to Montreal's Arts Networks
3.1 Guide to Latin-American Hispanic audiences (C)
A free practical guide available online to understand and reach Montreal’s various cultural communities:
- Latin-American Hispanic;
- Haitian.
3.2 Directory of organizations providing services to culturally-diverse artists (C)
From mentoring to publications, 27 Quebec organizations provide 10 different professional services either free of charge or at minimal cost. A wealth of practical information for artists at any stage of their careers, this directory is available online and is regularly updated. This project has been made possible with support by the Equity Office of the Canada Arts Council.
3.3 Directory of Montreal's Artistic Diversity (C)
This directory provides opportunities for Montreal’s culturally-diverse professional artists to present their work, CVs and profiles on DAM's website. The 245 professional artists already registered receive visibility as well as an exceptional reach into the professional arts milieu. This project has been made possible with support from the Conseil des Arts de Montréal and the Conseil Interculturel de Montréal.
3.4 démART program (C)
This program enables established arts organizations to host training sessions for culturally-diverse professional artists, both newly-arrived and first generation. Its purpose is to facilitate their integration into Quebec’s artistic milieu by offering them work experience in professional arts organizations. This program has been made possible through the collaboration of the Conseil des arts de Montréal and DAM and receives support from the Défi Montréal Program of the Department of Immigration and Cultural Communities.
3.5 Mon Accès à la Scène compétition (C)
This competition provides opportunities for performing artists living in the borough of Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension (VSMPE) to publically present a show at the Maison de la Culture VSMPE. Participants are also eligible for scholarships totalling $10,000 (offered by Cirque du Soleil ®), a artistic carreer management training for the most successful French-speaking finalist (offered by the Union des artistes) and arts project management (offered by DAM). This contest has been made possible through a collaboration between the district of VSMPE, Cirque du Soleil ®, UDA and DAM.
4. Networking and Information Resources in Montreal's artistic news
4.1 Info-Networking event: Lundis Pluriels (C)
This monthly soirée brings together artists and organizations of all artistic disciplines in Montréal, including broadcasters, funders, and so forth. In a friendly, informal setting, service organizations are introduced to the artists. Participants have the opportunity to promote their projects at the "Live Bilboard". This activity has been made possible through a collaboration between Culture Montréal, Montréal arts interculturels (MAI) and DAM.
4.2 DiversInfo, DiversInfo E-Newsletters (M)
This monthly newsletter for members and partners of DAM assembles a wealth of current information about the Montreal’s arts scene. There is news about DAM, its members and their projects, deadlines for various funding applications, job offers and opportunities, training workshops, and so forth. Delivered to over 800 contacts (including media, cultural organizations and donors) it is very useful for members to disseminate their events and announcements.
